Let's Talk About My WIP - Khalida's Garden

Hey y'all!! Want to talk a little about my current WIP and my process, as well as give you some insight into what my story is about :)))


Hey y'all!!! So most of you have heard that I plan on starting a new Fable book club on November 1st called "Melanin Is Magic" where we will exclusively be reading authors who fall under the Black Diaspora (this means African-American, African, Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latin, etc)

I did some scouring on Pinterest to find artwork that would serve as the inspiration for the eventual book club design, and I've narrowed down the choices to four picks!!! Before I commission my sister to create the artwork inspired by what I found, I'd love to know which of these designs y'all resonate with the most and/or any changes you'd like to see added to the final design.
For example, one of the images is of a heart with a page of (what I'm assuming) is a textbook. If this image were to win the poll, I'd love for the final version to showcase a brown hand holding that heart. Any and all thoughts are appreciated!! Don't be shy!!!

I did do some digging to try and credit the artists whose work I found on Pinterest, but unfortunately I could only find the one:

Books are my oldest friends, and libraries were my first loves. Growing up, stories were a guiding hand to lead me off to a world I wished I lived in, filled with people I wished I knew, the friends I wish I had. It was easy, oh so easy to bundle up in a comforter and dissolve into the words, the prose itself so magical a piece of me always wondered if novels were enchanted. That love and sense of wonder brought on by books has also deepened as the years have gone on. As a novelist, poet, and author, my relationship with reading has evolved over the years. Books are no longer purely entertainment, or informative, they are also therapeutic. They are transformative, they are powerful. They are the hands that sculpt the world. Most importantly, stories give me permission to be patient and gentle with myself and hold space for my inner child to scream, to shout, to speak, to laugh, to cry. To express all the emotions he spent so much time repressing. Afterall, I cannot heal what I do not allow myself to at first feel, and through words and their magic, I am made human. I am made whole.
